How to Reach Ranikhet


The quaint call of Ranikhet, the cantonment area in the state of Uttaranchal is an irresistible option for tourists across the country. The serene place which presents to the tourists, the view of the Himalayan range, has a well connectivity with other places of the country. So, the travel is not much cumbersome. If you are wondering how to reach Ranikhet, you don’t need to be in a soup. You can avail air, rail or road– any of the routes that you feel comfortable.

Reaching Ranikhet is easy if you are travelling by air, the nearest destination will be the Pantnagar airport, 119 km away from Ranikhet. You can avail a taxi from Pantnagar to reach and the charges will be around Rs. 2000. Pantnagar airport is linked with Delhi International Airport which itself is almost connected with major airports worldwide. It is quite a roundabout way if you don’t want to miss the fancy to avail a light.


Almora and Bareily have made it a frequent bus route. The tourist and state buses ply on a regular basis from Delhi to Ranikhet covering almost 350km. Taxi service from Delhi costs 6500 to reach around Ranikhet in 9 hours. If you are in a mood of long holiday drive with your friends or family there are options. Take NH 24 to Rampur via Moradabad and later follow NH 87 from which leads to Kathagodam through Rudrapur and Haldwani. The state highway from Kathagodam will lead to Ranikhet.

The destination for people, who would prefer train for a relaxed journey to reach at Ranikhet, will get off at Kathgodam, the nearby rail station almost 80km away from Ranikhet. Kothagodam has railway connectivity with Delhi, Howrah and other major railway stations of India. The major train services to Kothagodam are Dehradun- Kathgodam Express from Dehradun etc. Where the trains from Dehradun, Delhi and Howrah have daily arrivals, the Jammu Garib Rath is available only on Sundays and Kanpur on Mondays. Tourists have to spend Rs. 1500 for pre-paid taxi services
